JUTE /
WOOD, CLAY

Essay 03 / 03
On the materials in the frame

Jute is a plant fibre. It smells of hay when new and softens with every session, until it moves almost like cloth.

The rooms I work in are chosen for their surfaces: old wooden floors, clay tiles, a wall that takes light warmly.

“Everything in the frame should be something you could touch.”

Against these materials skin reads as one more of them, warm and matte. Black clothing absorbs, colour interrupts.

That is why most of the work stays brown and gold. It is less a style than the colour of the room.
